REWARDS: Worthy or Worthless

Justin had worked hard to get here. From his freshman year until now, he had listened to his coach and trained for the high hurdles. Now, in his senior year, he was competing for the district championships in front of hundreds of people. The starting gun went off, and it seemed like the race ended almost as soon as it started. In just a matter of seconds, Justin had won the Districts. As he proudly received his award medal, he reflected on the day four years ago when he almost gave up track because he wasn’t sure he could do it. Now, he was glad he had been faithful in his training and preparation.

The Christian life is often described as a race. God wants to reward those who run, but we have to enter the race. Then, just like Justin, we must train and run in such a way that we obtain the prize (1 Corinthians 9:24). The way we live our lives now determines whether we receive many or few rewards in Heaven.

AFTER GROUP: Xcavate is ON! at 8pm we will head over to WiredCoffeeEspress.com for coffee, gelato, and fellowship.

Christmas Song You Don’t Want to Miss – From Boto

Friends, Please take a minute to rest and listen to this. This song moved me. I’ve often spoken of the “Christmas songs” that have little to do with Christmas. Here is a song that is precisely about Christmas.

Merry Christmas friends, family, and others. May your life magnify the Lord.

In His Service,
Cody

Hashtag See Four Cue

#C4Q. What does it mean? Why does it keep popping up on Facebook? What does it have to do with four guys traveling to New York City with 600 coats?

For those of you fellow tweeters, if you follow myself (@mummau55), Kevin Summitt (@summittXperience), Colby Martin (@colbyitup), or our twitter’s newest homie Alex Stewart (@Alex11stewart), you will see us over the next few days continually post that same code #C4Q. We’ve chanted it as we passed people in traffic. We are living and breathing C4Q right now and it is awesome.

#C4Q simple means “Coats for Queens.” Each year our church, Bethlehem Church, partners with Gaston County Schools and their Coats for Kids program. This year will be no different. We are sending hundreds of coats over to GCS to help the kids in our community. God challenged us to do more this year however. After a long discussion with a young pastor in Queens, NY, we were challenged to help his church, House of Worship, give coats to those in need in their community this year as well. House of Worship sits right in the middle of one of the most diverse zip codes in the country. Many immigrants are just getting their feet on the ground. Many of them come from climates much different from the frigid NYC winters. House of Worship wants to help by offering free coats to anyone who needs one in order to love them in a practical sense.

On Thursday morning, Colby, Kevin, Alex, and I (Cody), left Bethlehem with a trailer filled with coats (600+) given by those who understood the importance of loving others in a very real way. Follow us on twitter to read how God is impacting lives on this incredible journey. We arrived in Queens last night (Thurs night/Friday morning) and we will head home on Sunday. Until then, we are focused on one purpose. Serving Jesus through #C4Q (go ahead and click it!).

S.T.O.R.M. Event Details with Schedule

Parents/Students/Leaders:

Here is the important information you need to know for next Saturday’s event. Please join us for this life changing EPIC event. If we have complete participation from our students, we will see several hundred new faces this Saturday!

Date: Saturday, December 10, 2011
Time: 6:00 – 8:30pm
Location: The WHEREHOUSE
Cost: FREE!

Who is invited?: We are asking every student (6th-12th) who is from Bethlehem Church to invite friends from school, sports teams, work, etc. The one thing we ask is that you do not invite students that are part of other youth groups. Only invite friends that currently are not involved in church and need to hear the message of Jesus Christ.

STUDENTS: This event is completely depending on you. As we’ve talked about for the past several weeks, the time has come to step outside of the box and invite your friends to The WHEREHOUSE. Invite at least 2 people personally every day. If they agree, get their address and go pick them up!

PARENTS! WE NEED YOU!: What will make this work is the same philosophy so many of you already do with sports teams and events. Ask your child if they have invited their friends yet. On your way to the WHEREHOUSE Saturday, pack the car with the friends your child has invited. Even if you have to come and go get more… help us by being the transportation. At the bottom is the link to an information sheet you can print out to give to parents of these students.

IF you want to help during the event, we can use your help. We will need help serving ice cream, trash detail, and counseling during the message. Please feel welcome as we partner together Saturday to impact this community with the gospel of Jesus.

WHAT STUDENTS NEED TO BRING:

  • Each WHEREHOUSE student brings one Christmas Tree ornament
  • WHEREHOUSE Students with last name A-M bring Ice Cream topping (chocolate, caramel, gummy bears, etc)
  • WHEREHOUSE Students with last name N-Z bring a side item (Chips, pretzels, M&M’s)

SCHEDULE:

Optional Pre-Event Prayer Time and Rally

4:45-5:15 – Prayer time over the night, Last minute details
5:15 – 6:45 – STORM the town. In vehicles w/parents picking up friends!

STORM EVENT!

6:00 – 6:45 – Student Welcome, Fellowship, Ping Pong, Christmas decorations
6:45 – 7:00 – Icebreaker/Mixer binging students to the stage
7:00 – 7:30 – Music, skit, game, etc
7:30 -8:05 – Message of Christmas/Gospel with invitation to follow Christ
8:05 – 8:15 – Close of message and encouragement of those who followed Jesus
8:15 – 8:30/45 ICE CREAM
8:45 – The WHEREHOUSE closes… take students home (we won’t leave until all have a ride home!)

STORM PERMISSION FLYER – Print one for each student you will pick up!

Share this on your facebook to let others know too!

From Sloppy Joes to The AntiChrist – AMP’d!!

Starting THIS Wednesday night.

Starting THIS Wednesday night.

AMP’d takes on a NEW look this week as we jump into “Peace On Earth.” This series will look at what is coming in the end times during a period of time known as the tribulation. Don’t miss a single week of this series as we take a part Scripture and answer questions many have had for years!

From 1941 through 1945, over six million Jews were killed under the leadership of Nazi dictator Adolf Hitler. Many Germans believed Hitler and his policies. They thought he was doing the right thing. They supported him, and thousands even died defending his plan. Only a few knew it was wrong and resisted. They knew innocent people were being murdered; families were being ripped apart; aunts, uncles, brothers, sisters, parents, grandparents, husbands and wives were being killed every minute.
But among those who thought it was wrong, there were others who did nothing about it. They simply followed along instead of standing up for what was right. They feared what would happen to them if they stood in front of the injustice happening to other people. If you were living in that time, what do you think you would have done?
The Bible teaches that as bad as Hitler was, a time is coming where that violence will be far surpassed (Revelation 13:15).

Time:
Food @ 5:30pm
AMP’d @ 6:30pm

MENU:
MEAL DEAL -> Sloppy Joe’s, Chips, Drink for $2.00
—–
RockStar – $2.00
Candy – $0.50
Chocolate – $1.00
