When was the last time you heard of an honest politician? I can’t think of anyone who is known for that quality unless we go back to Abraham Lincoln. Many of you could care less about historical figures or politics, but in this election year, it is hard to avoid the buzz surrounding it. People will say and do just about anything to get ahead. What has happened in our country that so much compromise and deceit is tolerated?

According to Daniel chapter 6, not much has changed. If we were to go back to around 535 B.C., this account would read like one of today’s headlines. Power hungry men scheme to take another man’s position by manipulating the law to their favor. It happened to Daniel and could be described as just another day in the office. But we must remember that God is in control and above all (Ephesians 4:6). For Daniel and those whom trust in Christ, it’s another day to see how God will work in our lives.

I know that is disappointing to some of you. Unfortunately, our involvement in the project following the events after the video was introduced brought focus on the side issues. These discussion took the focus off of the children we are hoping to protect and the madman we want captured. So GO! Show everyone that you guys will be heard! Stop at Nothing!

What we WILL be doing as a student ministry is making sure Kony is famous with those who attend Sunday morning (btw, that is a lot of people.) On Sunday Morning, you are invited to stand near our youth kiosk just as you enter church and hand out any flyers you have remaining as well as any that we have left. Be prepared to share with people how they can help this situation. It is not enough to simply hand them a flyer. Encourage them to get involved.

This week, we conclude the “Game Over” series with “What Did He Say?”

An American patriot named Nathan Hale, just before his execution, said, “I only regret that I have but one life to give for my country.” What an inspirational statement. He was killed shortly after saying these words on September 22, 1776. He had been captured by British troops while on a spy mission during the American Revolution. Many Americans are still inspired by his last words.

Last words or sayings can often inspire individuals and even nations. Whether quoted from famous people in the face of death or from obscure individuals who showed uncommon courage, those words can change the way we look at things. The last recorded words of Jesus are like that. Recorded in Revelation 22:20, Jesus gave Christians of all ages, races, and nationalities a promise that can guide them for their entire lives: “Surely, I am coming quickly.” We must review the last words of Jesus and see how we can apply them to our lives today. Even so come, Lord Jesus!

Have you ever heard someone say, “It’s a sure thing”? Scam artists say that all the time as they swindle innocent people out of their hard-earned money. In 2009, the chairman of the NASDAQ stock exchange was caught in perhaps the biggest scam of all time. Investigators report that he swindled investors of as much as sixteen billion dollars from hundreds of trusting investors. These victims, who thought their money was safe in his hands, found that they had lost everything they invested.

People will tell you that in life there is no such thing as a sure thing. And, usually, they are right. But in eternity, there is a sure thing. There are investments you can make that will always have the highest rate of return. These are investments that are not risked in the hands of a mere financial custodian or overseer. No, these are investments that are sent ahead of you into eternity. Matthew 6:20-21 assures us that these treasures cannot be lost, destroyed, or stolen.
